KEEPERS POOL
Little is known of the origins of this pool, but it is generally accepted that it was created as a fish pond, by John Holte who was Park Ranger or Keeper in the reign of Henry the Sixth, 1422-1461, fish then being a most important part of the diet of the gentry on non meat eating feast days.
In 1604 the Corporation leased the pool to Edward Pudsey of Langley at a rent of five shillings a year.
In 1887 the Corporation opened an open air public swimming baths or lido at the pool. The buildings were destroyed by arson in 2003 having been closed to the public on health and safety grounds for some years.
